Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • •\- Heart failure patients (NYHA\-classification category II or III \+ ejection fraction of \<\=40%)
  • •\- Healthy older volunteers (age\- and sex\-matched)

Exclusion Criteria

  • •\- Type I or II diabetes mellitus
  • •\- Mild renal impairment or proteinuria
  • •\- Hepatic impairment
  • •\- Hypercholesterolaemia (\>\=6\.5 mmol/L)
  • •\- Hypertension
  • •\- Atrial fibrillation
  • •\- Pre\-menopausal females or those on hormone replacement therapy
  • •\- Other (serious) pathology, such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
