Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • •Moderate to severe ARDS (acute respiratory distress syndrome) (PaO2/FiO2 \< 200 mmHg), consent to the study

Exclusion Criteria

  • •\- mechanical ventilation for less than 12 hours or more than 5 days
  • •\- severe head injury
  • •\- inherited cardiac malformations
  • •\- severe cardial valvular pathologies
  • •\- presence of arrhythmias
  • •\- immunosuppression
  • •\- end\-stage chronic organ failure
  • •\- expected survival of less than 24 hours
  • •\- pregnancy
