Inclusion Criteria

All patients admitted to EICU with clinically suspected VAP based on following criteria: Mechanical Ventilation >=48 hrs, newly appeared/ evolving CXR infilterate and >= 2 of the following criteria :- temperature( >= 38.5®c ) or hypothermia ( <36.5®c ), leukocytosis >104/ml or leucopenia <4.103/ml; purulent tracheal secretions; PaO2/FiO2 < 300

Exclusion Criteria

a. Ongoing pneumonia

b. Presence of subcutaneous emphysema or thoracic

dressings

c. Contraindications to fibreoptic bronchoscopy.

d. Patients with previous H/O COPD, interstitial

lung disease.

e. Patients who will die within 24 hours will be

excluded from the analysis.
