Male or female aged over 18; prescription of a SSRI prescribed by GP
Exclusion Criteria
Use of antidepressant one year before the start of this new treatment episode

Name Time Method <p>Outcome variable: time from start of SSRI treatment to discontinuation of<br /><br>antidepressant use. Switching from the initial SSRI to another antidepressant<br /><br>will be considered as continuation of treatment. The assessment of the duration<br /><br>of antidepressant use will be primary based on patient reports, which will be<br /><br>confirmed by pharmacy data.<br /><br>Determinants:<br /><br>* Beliefs about and attitudes towards antidepressants<br /><br>* Patients* characteristics (age, gender, socio-economic variables)<br /><br>* Health characteristics (severity of symptoms of depression / anxiety,<br /><br>health status)<br /><br>* Drug characteristics (type of SSRI, dose, switching of antidepressant,<br /><br>previous antidepressant use, co-medication (benzodiazepines), effectiveness,<br /><br>side effects, adherence<br /><br>* Health care related variables (communication with physician / pharmacy,<br /><br>satisfaction with information)</p><br>
