Inclusion Criteria
1 patients suffering from rheumatic mitral valve disease with atrial fibrillation, scheduled for routine mitral valve replacement surgery.
Exclusion Criteria
1 Patients with HR of < 55/min
2 LA size >60mm
3 NYHA IV
4 Sick sinus rhythm
5 Atrioventricular block
6 Serum creatinine >200mmol/l
7 Elevated liver enzymes
8 Concomitant coronary artery disease
9 Moderate to severe LV dysfunction
10 Redo and emergency surgery
11 Patients on mechanical ventilation/ intra-aortic balloon pump

Name Time Method Heart rate and rhythmTimepoint: Base line, just before onset of CPB, after aortic cross clamp release, after completion of surgery, at the time of extubation, at the time of shifting out of ICU.
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method HR and rhythm at the time of shifting to the ward from ICU, duration of mechanical ventilation and ICU stay, and complications in consequence to AF if any.Timepoint: ICU shifting to shifting in post operative ward.
