Inclusion Criteria

1. American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status 1 and 2 patients

2. Thyroidectomy under general anaesthesia.

Exclusion Criteria

1.Those receiving IV carbohydrate solution

2.Patients with diabetes mellitus.

3.Patients with anticipated difficult airway (Mallampatti 3-4)

4.Patients who receive intra op Inj Dexona

5.Pregnancy , obesity, patients on opioids.

6.H/O motion sickness, severe hepatic or renal failure, hiatus hernia , reflux oesophagitis

7.FBS less than 80 mg

To find out whether a carbohydrate drink given 2 hours before the surgery results in a decline in the intraoperative blood glucose levels.Timepoint: Blood sugar values will be taken before giving carbohydrate drink,before induction of anaesthesia, one hour after induction, then at end of surgery
