Surgery in supine position (hemicolectomy and staging laparotomies)
Surgery in lateral position (nephrectomy)
ASA I-II patients
Body mass index (BMI) greater than 35 kg/ m-2
Asthma requiring bronchodilator therapy, COPD or any other severe pulmonary disease
Hemodynamic instability
History of congestive heart failure
Right ventricular dysfunction
Severe valvular heart disease
Intra-cardiac shunts
Cardiac rhythm other than regular sinus
Intracranial hypertension
Liver cirrhosis (Child Pugh class B or C)
Pregnancy
Previous thoracic surgery
Lung metastatic surgery
Previous receiving chemotherapy
Emergency surgery
Surgeries done in other than supine and lateral positions
Preoperative need for invasive mechanical ventilation
