- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method
1. * Non-oxidative glucose disposal (µmol/kg/min) by

hypersinsulinemic-euglycemic clamp combined with indirect calorimetry: NOGD is

reported as the difference between the rate of glucose disposal (Rd) and

carbohydrate oxidation under insulin-stimulated condition.

- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method
1. - Skeletal muscle glycogen content (mmol/kg protein) and regulatory enzymes

activity

2. - Skeletal muscle insulin sensitivity (*Rd: insulin-stimulated * basal

glucose disposal, µmol/kg/min)

3. - 24 hours glycaemic profile (Mean glucose concentration mmol/L, net

incremental AUC, frequency and duration of hyperglycaemia)

4. - Skeletal muscle mitochondrial function (PCr recovery time in sec.)

5. - Metabolic flexibility during exercise (*RER)

6. - Ectopic fat accumulation in the liver (%)

7. - Maximal Acetylcarnitine formation in the upper-leg at resting and after

exercise (mmol/kg wet weight).
