- Adult patients ><= 18 years; healthy controls ><= 18 and <<= 45 years
- Fulfilment of the EFNS/PNS clinical criteria for probable or definite CIDP or MADSAM (appendix in protocol)
- Disability or progression of disease justifying treatment
- Other diseases known to cause neuropathy
- Use of drugs which are known to cause neuropathy
- Neurophysiological evidence of carpal tunnel syndrome
- Use of immunomodulatory drugs in the last 6 months or IVIg in the last 2 months.
- Refusal to give informed consent or withdrawal of previously given permission
- Legally incompetent adult
