Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •Respiratory failure within 48hrs post extubation requiring non invasive respiratory support (i.e., High flow nasal oxygenation)
Exclusion Criteria
- •Age < 18yrs
- •Elective intubation for therapeutic or diagnostic purposes
- •Do not intubate orders
- •Accidental extubation
- •Presence of hypercapnia (PaCO2 > 45 mmHg)
- •Acute respiratory failure secondary to asthma
- •Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) exacerbation
