Study participants are selected according to the following criteria:
1. Willingness and ability to participate,
2. Sufficient knowledge of German to understand the subject information and the declaration of consent,
3. Ability to give consent and written consent of the subject,
4. Ability of the subject to assess the nature and scope as well as possible consequences of the clinical study,
5. Age = 18 years.
Minors and adults unable to give their consent are excluded from the study. Furthermore, study participants with open wounds on the structures to be measured are excluded, as the measuring probe of the MSOT system only
intended for skin contact.
In addition, when including new test subjects, care is taken to ensure that the minimum number of test subjects per gender and skin type group is not fallen below.
Subjects will not be included in the study if they meet any of the following exclusion criteria:
- Open wounds on at least one of the body parts to be picked up
- Signs that the participant is unlikely to adhere to the study protocol (e.g. lack of compliance)
- Missing written declaration of consent

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method The main criterion of this exploratory pilot study is to form hypotheses of applicability of novel methods and algorithms for processing photoacoustic data. The data included in this study are essential for evaluating new methodological approaches and improving them on the basis of the experience gained. Furthermore, the collected data for sample size planning of further studies of photoacoustic imaging can be used.
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method The data included in this study will continue to be used to make statistical statements about the intra- and inter-subject variability of the measurement data. The question here is, for example, in which range of values the measured values are and whether there are differences between different test subjects.
This information is particularly interesting because many of the methods used as standard in the research field for analyzing and evaluating data assume that the measured values of a device are constant for different test subjects, which has not yet been adequately shown.
Here, for example, it is speculated that the skin color of the test persons (caused by the different concentration of melanin - the most strongly absorbing endogenous chromophore) has an influence on the measured values and image quality properties.
