Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • first CVA (cerebral vascular accident), subacute phase (\>\= 2 weeks post stroke; \<\=3 month poststroke) \- patient was walking independently prior to the CVA
  • \- Functional Ambulation Categories (FAC) of 1 or 2
  • \- Patient is able to sit independently
  • \- there are no weight bearing restriction of the lower extremities (standing and gait)

Exclusion Criteria

  • \- severe neglect (e.g.Catherine Bergego Scale CBS \>10\) \- demonstrating pusher behavior (e.g.Scale for Contraversive Pushing SCP \>\=2\.5\) \- restriction in weight bearing on lower extremities \- walking with an assistive device or less than 1km prior to CVA
  • \- severe visual impairment \- severe aphasia (patient must be able to follow instructions)
  • \- additional neurological conditions
