Participants between 55 and 80 years of age and showed = 3 of the following parameters that define the metabolic syndrome:
1. Hypertension (= 130/85 mm Hg or use of antihypertensive drugs)
2. Impaired glucose tolerance (glycemia = 100 mg/dL or use of antidiabetic drugs and/or insulin)
3. Serum triglyceride concentration =150 mg/dL
4. Plasma HDL cholesterol concentrations = 40 mg/dL (men), = 50 mg/dL (women)
5. Waist circumference = 102 cm (men), = 88 cm (women)
Healthy adults (males and females) or with:
1. Previous history of cardiovascular disease
2. Any several chronic diseases
3. Grape and wine intolerance or allergic
4. Alcoholism
5. Other toxic abuse
