Inclusion Criteria

patients of either gender

age group 18-60 years

weight between 40-80 kg

Herpetic neuralgia of 14days to 3months duration

Patients should have had atleast 14 days of trial of conventional medical therapy

VAS scores of the patient >6 at anytime in 24 hours for justification of intervention

Patients with thoracic or lumbar herpes zoster

Exclusion Criteria

Those refusing to participate in study

Severe cardiac or respiratory diseases

Allergic to test drug or local anaesthetics Severe hepatic impairment

Bleeding disorders (Bleeding time, Clotting time will be undertaken)

Patients on therapeutic anti coagulants

Local site infection

To compare the efficacy of epidural vs paravertebral block in providing analgesia in herpetic neuralgia patients using VAS scoresTimepoint: patients will be followed up on alternate days for VAS score, Quality of life scale and satisfaction score for 10 days either clinically or telephonically.( Day 3,5,7 & 10)

To compare the patient satisfaction score in both the groups using likert scale <br/ ><br>To compare the quality of life scale in both the groups using American chronic pain association scales <br/ ><br> To study the side effect profile of both the blocks in these patientsTimepoint: patients will be followed up on alternate days for VAS score, Quality of life scale and satisfaction score for 10 days either clinically or telephonically.( Day 3,5,7 & 10)In all the scales an average score in last 24hrs will be recorded.
