Inclusion Criteria
Critically ill children 2 years to <15 years of age with an acute need for invasive
mechanical ventilation(<= 72 hours) by oral endotracheal tube with
oxygenation index >= 4 or oxygen saturation index >= 5 with chest infiltrates
Exclusion Criteria
Neuromuscular disease
Contraindications for trans-esophageal catheter insertion
Active uncontrolled esophageal or gastric bleeding
Traumatic brain injury
Extubation within 24 hours of intubation
