Inclusion Criteria
18 years of age or dlder
smoked at least 10 cigarettes per day during the preceding year
had smoked for at least 3 years
motivated to stop smoking or wanted to reduce their cigarette consumption
Exclusion Criteria
history of any serious clinical disease (i.e., cancer, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, endocrine, gastrointestinal, and pulmonary disease; significant hepatic or renal impairment; and neurologic or psychiatric disorders)
had attempted to stop smoking in the past 12 months using NRTs
