1. A first event of stroke or traumatic brain injury, age =19 years
2. Disease duration of 12 months or less
3. Mild to-moderate motor upper extremity deficits (Brunnstrom stage for the upper extremity =3)
4. No problems with auditory or visual functioning
5. A total score of 10 or greater on the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE)
1. Predisposing psychological disorders that could impede participation
2. Severe aphasia resulting in communication difficulties that could influence the intervention and outcome measures
