简要总结

The study is an endeavor to advance our understanding of the nature of consciousness and its neurophysiological underpinnings by obtaining the EEG signatures of an extremely accomplished yogi during meditation. The experiment involves non-invasive EEG and respiration measurements. There is no intervention in this study. All measures will be taken to ensure the safety and well-being of the participants.

The study explores the possibility of the existence of physiologically distinct states of consciousness using EEG (Electroencephalogram), heart rate, and breathing rate measurements during advanced meditation states of accomplished yogis, as compared to the physiological states observed in normal healthy individuals. The study phenomenologically quantifies the Yogi’s subjective experience in such deep meditative states, including that of awareness of the surrounding environment.

The study will obtain neurophysiological fingerprints of different meditative states of a Yogi and correlate them with the Yogi’s subjective experiences.

入选标准

  • Inclusion Criteria To be eligible for participation, individuals must meet the following criteria: Age: Participants must be over 18 years of age.
  • Yoga and Meditation Experience: Participants should possess a minimum of 20 years of cumulative experience in the practice of yoga, which includes any combination of aasana, pranayama, meditation, and mantra chanting.
  • Volitional Attainment of Distinct States of Consciousness: Participants must believe that they are capable of volitionally attaining a state of distinct consciousness, such as samadhi or jnana, through meditation.
  • Willingness to Demonstrate State: Participants should express interest and willingness to demonstrate the aforementioned state during the EEG experiment.

排除标准

  • Exclusion Criteria Participants will be excluded from the study if they do not meet one or more inclusion criteria.
  • Exhibit any health issues or contraindications identified during the medical screening conducted before the experiment.
