1 Systematically healthy patients and showing the absence of clinical manifestations of periodontal disease.
2 Chronic periodontitis patients having at least 20 natural teeth and minimum of 6 teeth with periodontal pockets >= 5mm and clinical attachment level >= 3-4mm.
3 All the patients should be systematically healthy and should not have received periodontal treatment for last 6 months prior to the clinical examination and sampling.
4 Generalised aggressive periodontitis patients with clinical attachment level >= 5mm affecting atleast 3 teeth other than first molars and incisors and moderate to severe bone loss as assessed by radiographs
1 Smokers
2 Systemic diseases like diabetes mellitus, heart diseases, rheumatoid arthritis, hepatitis and other systemic diseases that can alter the course of periodontal disease.
3 Diseases of oral hard and soft tissue except caries and periodontitis.
4 Subjects on any medication taken within last 6 months which may alter the periodontal status.
5 Pregnant and lactating mothers.
