All newborns with gestational age >=32 weeks and birth weight >=1000g will be screened for possible sepsis if they present beyond 24 hr. of age with one or more of the following clinical signs -
1. history of feeding difficulty,
2. movement only when stimulated,
3. temperature < 35.5oC or >=37.5oC,
4. respiratory rate over 60 breaths per minute,
5. severe chest in drawing and
6. history of convulsions
1. Meconium aspiration syndrome
2. Hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy
3. Neonates requiring surgery
4. CNS malformation
5. Metabolic disorders
6. Chromosomal abnormalities
