1. 35 - 65 years-old
2. Presence of at least 16 teeth
3. Periodontitis with PD =5 mm with bleeding on probing (BOP) in at least 30% of the teeth
1. Poorly controlled diabetes
2. Autoimmune diseases
3. Genetic disorders
4. Bone metabolic diseases
5. Bisphosphonate drugs
6. Drug-induced gingival overgrowth
7. Tumours or other oral pathology
8. Pregnant or lactating women
9. Antibiotic use for any purpose within 3 months before entering the study
