The inclusion criteria were age more than 5 years, untreated or patients off treatment for 4 weeks before entering the study. It was ensured that females enrolled in the study were either using two forms of contraception (OCP/ IUD/ Barrier) or had permanent method of sterilisation (tubectomy or vasectomy in partner).
The exclusion criteria were pregnancy and lactation; age less than 5 years; systemic disorders including liver dysfunction, hyperlipidemia, connective tissue disorders, photosensitive disorders and psychiatric illness; treatment with drugs like vitamin A, tetracyclines, steroids or on laser treatment; uncooperative patients and patients with unrealistic expectations.
