All patients who have received a tympanoplasty type II, III or IV at the Department of Oto- Rhino- Laryngology at the University of Freiburg in the period 2012 to 2019 will be included.
Excluded are patients with operations on the respective ear that took place before 2012 or outside the university hospital.
In addition, the surgical indications meningo- and encephalocele, paraganglioma of the tympanic cavity, meningitis with focus at the ear and tympanoplasty as a preparation to a cochlear implant are excluded, as these underlying diseases would falsify an objective comparison of the hearing results.
