Eligibility Criteria
Inclusion Criteria
- •1\) AGE \>18years
- •2\) Elective cardiac surgery
- •3\) Surgical intervention performed with CPB, aortic cross\-clamping 4\) Valvular surgery, coronary surgery, surgery on the ascending aorta 5\) Median sternotomy and bi\-pulmonary ventilation
Exclusion Criteria
- •1\) Patient refusal
- •2\) Non elective cardiac surgery
- •3\) Previous cardiac surgery
- •4\) Anticipated circulatory arrest.
- •5\) Patients with BMI \>30
- •6\) Patients with end\-stage chronic kidney disease (defined as need for dialysis) 7\) Patients with known respiratory diseases (ongoing respiratory infections, asthma, COPD, OSAS)
- •8\) Patients already intubated before arrival in operating theatre
- •9\) Previous pulmonary resection
- •10\) Patients with a preoperative oxygen saturation \<90%, or Pa O2 \< 60 mmHg without supplemental oxygen, or a PaO2 /FiO 2 ratio \<300, or PaCO 2 \> 45 mmHg
- •11\) Patients with hepatic disease, defined as elevated liver enzymes (higher than two reference intervals)
