Comparative effect of yoga and qigong on muscle strength, muscle mass, physical performance, and frailty in older adults with osteosarcopenia is an emerging area of interest in geriatric rehabilitation. Osteosarcopenia, characterized by the coexistence of low bone mass and reduced muscle mass and function, significantly increases the risk of falls, fractures, and functional decline in older adults. Both yoga and qigong are mind–body exercises known to improve balance, strength, and overall physical performance; however, evidence directly comparing their effects in individuals with osteosarcopenia is limited. This randomized controlled trial aims to compare the effects of yoga and qigong on muscle strength, muscle mass, physical performance, and frailty in older adults aged 60–70 years with osteosarcopenia. A total of 46 participants will be randomly allocated into two groups: one group receiving yoga intervention and the other receiving qigong intervention. The interventions will be administered for a specified duration under supervision, and outcomes will be assessed before and after the intervention period using validated measurement tools. The findings of this study may help identify an effective exercise strategy for improving musculoskeletal health and reducing frailty in this population.

入选标准

  • Older Adults 60 to 70 years.
  • Diagnosis of Sarcopenia according to the Asian Working Group for Sarcopenia (AWGS 2019) consensus criteria:
  • Low Muscle Strength (Hand-grip strength less than 28kg for men and less than 18 kg for women.
  • Low Muscle quantity/quality-Bioelectric Impedance Analysis (Men less than 7.0 kg per meter square and Women less than 5.7 kg per meter square.
  • SPPB less than 8, TUG more than 20 seconds,4m walk more than 6 minutes.
  • Frailty Score less than 6 on the clinical frailty scale.
  • Medically stable and able to provide informed consent.

排除标准

  • Individuals with acute or unstable cardiovascular, respiratory, or metabolic conditions.
  • History of neurological disorders that severely affect movement.
  • Musculoskeletal conditions that severely contraindicate physical exercise.
  • Current participation in other structured exercise programs.
  • Diagnosis of dementia or severe cognitive impairment.
