oRetained placenta for at least 30 minutes (or 60 minutes in physiological management)
oWritten informed consent
oEstimated gestation of at least 24 weeks
oParticipants should be over 18 years of age, or over 16 and ‘Gillick competent’.
oSignificant vaginal bleeding or maternal haemodynamic instability (Pulse > 100bpm or systolic blood pressure <100mmHg) necessitating immediate placental removal
oStillborn baby
oWomen requiring English translation
oWomen without time for ultrasound assessment before they go to theatre, or in whom ultrasound would delay normal management.
