Inclusion Criteria

- 18-70 yrs
- patients with hypertension and/or ischemic heart disease to whom treatment with an oral beta-blocker is suggested

Exclusion Criteria

- treatment with a beta-blocking agent within 3 months
- being allergic to any of the components of the drugs
- II-III degree AV-block
- sick sinus syndrome
- severe chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asthma or bronchospasm
- severe peripheral arterial disease
- uncompensated heart failure
- untreated pheochromocytoma
- treatment with a MAO-inhibitor
- pregnancy or lactation
- severe liver damage or liver failure
- psoriasis
- severe hypertension (>180/110 mmHg)
- atrial fibrillation
- lack of informed consent
- poor compliance

Main Objective: The primary aim of the present study is to determine how nebivolol, carvedilol and metoprolol affects central arterial pressure and aortic pulse wave velocity ;Secondary Objective: The secondary aim of the present study is to compare the efficacy of nebivolol, carvedilol and metoprolol in reducing central arterial pressure and aortic pulse wave velocity.;Primary end point(s): Primary end-points are changes in central arterial systolic pressure and aortic pulse wave velocity after 3 months of treatment.
