简要总结
Brief Summary -
Pain is a very commoncomplaint in the Emergency Department and severe pain is often caused due totrauma. Therefore an essential part of the management of such patients isrelief of pain. Unfortunately pain evaluation and assessment is often bypassedin the Emergency due to lack of time and improper application of painassessment tools.
The study will consist of two arms – the Pre Protocol arm and the Per Protocolarm.
Thisstudy aims to assess the baseline (Pre Protocol) adequacy of the analgesia byfollow-up assessment of the patient’s pain at half hourly intervals offering aclearer picture of pain management in the ED. This study also aims to implementa pain protocol and assess the impact of the protocol on the above mentionedparameters to assess if standardization of medication improves pain relief inthe ED.
Thepain protocol involves an educational programme that will inform the EDregistrars about the importance of early and appropriate management of pain andregarding the pain protocol.
Thepain protocol for this study divides patients into two categories based ontheir pain score –
· Pain Score ≤ 4 – Inj Paracetamol 1g in 100ml NS iv over 10min
· Pain Score > 4 – Inj Morphine 0.1mg/kg iv and InjParacetamol 1g in 100ml NS iv over 10 min
Thesedrugs shall be administered to all patients in the Post protocol phase if thereis no contraindication to the mentioned drugs.
