A study to measure the zinc level in blood of children with severe pneumonia and to find out the effect of zinc supplementation ( given for 14 days ) in those children on recurrence or further attacks of pneumonia in the next 3 months.

children aged 2 â?? 60 months with severe pneumonia [who satisfy the World Health Organization (WHO) case definition of severe pneumonia ie Fever, Cough, Fast breathing (>= 50 / min in 2 mo â?? 12 mo and >= 40 / min in 1 â?? 5 yrs) and chest indrawing , requiring admission
1) Very severe pneumonia as per WHO case definition
2)Severe acute malnutrition
3)Child with Tuberculosis (of any system)
4)Known case of congenital heart disease
5)Present episode associated with allergic diseases or asthma
6)History of intake of Zinc in past three months
7)With an associated clinical diagnosis of diarrhea
