The aim of the study will be to study the effect of one-lung ventilation on the right ventricular function since one-lung ventilation causes acute changes in right ventricular afterload which may affect right ventricular function. Adult patients of either sex, undergoing elective lung resection surgeries (segmentectomies, lobectomies, pneumonectomies)will be recruited into the trial and the effects of one lung ventilation on right ventricular deformation will be studied by 2-dimensional strain echocardiography, since strain echocardiography represents a load-independent measure of ventricular function. Also right and left ventricular function will be assessed with 3-dimensional echocardiography.
Emergency surgery; obese patients; patients having arrhythmias; contraindications to transesophageal echocardiography probe placement
