Inclusion criteria :
Children with new- onset and infrequently relapsing nephrotic syndrome receiving steroids, attending pediatric nephrology clinic and pediatric wards, JIPMER
Exclusion criteria :
i)Children with history of hypocalcemic seizure, tetany, rickets or fractures.
ii)Known cases of renal stones.
iii)Children with NS already on calcium and vitamin D supplements.
iv)Sexual maturity rating (SMR grade 2, by Tanner staging) and above.
v)Frequently relapsing, steroid dependent and steroid resistant NS.
vi)Children on cyclosporine therapy, phenytoin, phenobarbitone, methotrexate or requiring any immunosuppressant other than prednisolone.
vii)Chronic renal failure or chronic liver disease.
viii)Secondary causes of NS (e. g IgA nephropathy, Henoch Schonlein Purpura nephritis ,Lupus nephritis)
