Eligibility Criteria

Inclusion Criteria

  • •All patients with AS had been diagnosed according to the criteria of the Modified New York Criteria.

Exclusion Criteria

  • •The exclusion criteria for AS group is; other systemic diseases in addition to AS (chronic heart diseases, diabetes mellitus, endocarditis), pregnancy or lactation, infectious diseases (hepatitis, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis) and limited mobility. Exclusion criteria for both groups are current smokers, history of periodontal therapy during the last 6 months, and use of antibiotics at least 6 months before the study.
