Inclusion criteria were: (a) pregnant women with gestational age below 34 weeks who were hospitalized for premature rupture and labour complaints; (b) the absence of concomitant disease such as chorioamnionitis or a history of drug sensitivity to magnesium sulphate; (c) no previous use of magnesium sulphate in order to curb labour complaint in recent pregnancy; (d) the absence of twin or multiple pregnancy. Exclusion criteria also were: (a) probable case of chorioamnionitis; (b) progress of labour as 4 cm cervical dilatation; (c) allergy or medical complications in combination with magnesium sulphate; (d) fatal foetal anomalies; (e) Nonreassuring fetal status; (f) severe foetal growth restriction; (g); Severe preeclampsia or eclampsia; (h) Maternal haemorrhage with hemodynamic instability
