Patient suffering from migraine with/without aura and with/without prophylaxis
All migraine patients are included if they fulfill the following criteria:
a.) episodic or chronic migraine with or without aura (had at least one attack in life)
b.) female and male sex
c.) < 65 years old
Excluded are all patients for whom the above does not apply, taking opiates (opiates act on the pain system and can falsify the cMRI data), patients suffering from further headaches or facial pain (except tension headache), pregnancy or lactation, contraindications against cMRI (pacemaker), other metal implants which are contraindicated and the lack of the possibility to oral and written information.
Patients over 65 years are not included because they may develop more cardiovascular diseases and cerebral microvascular changes etc., which could falsify the MRI results.

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Arm 1.)
Significant changes in white and grey matter
(pain matrix) in migraine patients (with and without aura) compared to healthy controls
(diffusivity/voxel-based morphometry)

Arm 2.)
Significant changes in the pain matrix (diffusivity/voxel-based morphometry) due to migraine prophylaxis
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Arm 1.) none

Arm 2.) The changes in the accompanying symptoms (e.g. nausea/vomiting, photo-phonophobia, etc.) correlate with diffusivity/voxel-based morphometry
