COPD group
1. Age >/= 40 years
2. Diagnosed COPD according to GOLD criteria (post-bronchodilator FEV1/FVC < 0.70)
3. Post-bronchodilator FEV1 35-79 %predicted within the past 6 months
Control group
1. Age >/= 40 years
2. Normal spirometry (FEV1/FVC >/= 0.70 and FVC >/= 80 %predicted)
COPD group
1. History of acute exacerbation of COPD within the past 3 months
2. History of thoracic surgery
3. Diagnosed diaphragm paralysis or chronic neuromuscular disease
4. Pregnant woman
5. Refuse to participate
Control group
1. History of thoracic surgery
2. Other respiratory diseases such as pneumothorax, pleural effusion, or pulmonary fibrosis
3. Pregnant woman
4. Refuse to participate
