Healthy participants in the age group of 30-50 years, without a history of diabetes and participants with a history of Type 2 diabetes for not more than 3 years, will be recruited after their oral and written informed consent.
All participants with a history of type 1 diabetes, smoking (using tobacco products on recruitment to the study and those who quit smoking within the past year will be considered smokers), acute and major chronic inflammatory/immune disorders including autoimmune conditions, infections (including tuberculosis, HIV, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C), pulmonary, liver diseases and malignancies (within the last 5 years), treatment with medications known to affect periodontal status (phenytoin and cyclosporine antioxidant, vitamin or mineral supplements), any form of systemic or local immunosuppression (including steroids) within the previous 6 months, habit of chewing pan, supari, gutka, tobacco, areca nut, betel leaf, etc. will be excluded. Physically handicapped and mentally challenged individuals; Pregnant or lactating females and patients who had undergone any periodontal treatment in the previous six months will also be excluded from the study. Subjects with less than 10 functional teeth will be excluded. All participants will be recruited after their oral and written informed consent.
