Inclusion Criteria
Less than or equal to 20% total body surface area burn injury
Expected to undergo at least one surgery during their inpatient admission for a burn injury
Exclusion Criteria
Facial burns (if unable to form a seal around the mouthpiece for the metabolic assessment)
Patients on continuous naso-gastric feeding

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Metabolic flexibility - determined by changes observed in respiratory exchange ratio (RER) as measured by sampling of expired gas using indirect calorimetry, post-consumption of the standardized high carbohydrate meal in the form of a 300ml glucose drink containing 75g of glucose.[RER will be measured for a continuous 60 minute period following the consumption of the standardised high carbohydrate meal at each assessment.<br><br>Baseline assessment: ~48 hours pre surgery<br>2nd assessment: 48-72 hours post surgery<br>3rd assessment: 6 weeks post surgery<br>4th assessment 12 month post surgery]
