Inclusion Criteria

All subjects will be physically and psychologically healthy, as ascertained by standard interviews prior to testing. Participants must be between 5 and 9 years of age and take part in the behavioral KIDS-WIN-study. Moreover, none of the exclusion criteria can apply to the participant.

Exclusion Criteria

In line with established safety guidelines, participants must meet the safety criteria for fMRI. Any child with internal electronic and/or metallic objects (e.g. braces, artificial cochleae, medical pumps, shrapnell, metallic splinters due to accidents during metal welding, cardiac pacemaker, deep brain neurostimulator, etc.) will be excluded from participation. Also, children with Claustrophobia, a diagnosis of psychiatric or neurologic disorder, brain trauma or injury, and left handed children will be excluded from the study.

Primary Outcome Measures
NameTimeMethod
The primary outcome of the study will be the changes of the Blood Oxygen Level Dependent signal (BOLD) during the different training conditions as well as T1 and diffusion weighted images to identify changes in volume of grey and white matter substance. Such measures will be taken at a baseline point (before the start of the training programs) and once the training programs have been finished (maximum delay between end of program and scanning session will be 24 months).
Secondary Outcome Measures
NameTimeMethod
Behavioural performance differences during the different tasks performed inside and outside the scanner, which will be recorded on each scanning session. The main performance measures vary between the different tasks, but typically all of them include measures of accuracy (% of correct responses), mean reaction time and variability of their responses. The tasks are programmed using Psychtoolbox (psychtoolbox.org), and the scripts used include the recording of all the responses of the participant.
