简要总结

This randomized controlled trial aims to investigate the effect of a structured academic yoga program on telomere length in healthy volunteers. Telomere structures naturally shorten with age, and their accelerated erosion is associated with various age-related diseases and poor health outcomes. Yoga may positively influence telomere length and consequently ,cellular aging .The Study involves 20 participants aged 18 -30 years from the International Institute of Yoga and Naturopathy Medical Sciences (IIYNMS),Chengalpattu. Participants will engage in one hour of regular academic yoga practice, five days a week, for six months. The interventional effectiveness is assessed through measuring the Changes in Telomere length using High-throughput Quantitative Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (HT-Q-FISH) at baseline and post intervention. By examining the biological and psychological outcomes of yoga practice, this study seeks to provide scientific evidence on its potential as a preventive health strategy for enhancing cellular longevity and overall well-being.

  • Healthy volunteers aged 18–30 years. Individuals scoring within the normal range (score less than or equal to 3) on a validated health screening tool (General Health Questionnaire.
  • GHQ-12). Individuals willing to participate in yoga sessions and provide informed consent. No history of chronic illness or recent major medical interventions.

排除标准

  • Individuals currently practicing yoga or other mind-body interventions regularly.
  • Pregnant or lactating women.
  • Individuals using medications or supplements known to influence oxidative stress, inflammation, or telomere dynamics.

结局指标

主要结局

High-throughput

时间窗: Telomere length changes are assessed before and after the intervention period of 6 months.

Quantitative Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (HT-Q-FISH): A sensitive and precise method that quantifies Mean telomere length (MTL) in kilobases per cell, Percentage of critically short telomeres,Telomere length distribution across leukocyte subsets.

时间窗: Telomere length changes are assessed before and after the intervention period of 6 months.

次要结局

  • Perceived Stress Scale (PSS):Tool to measure perception of stress in daily life.(WHO-5 Well-Being Index:To assess the subjective psychological well being.)
