i)ASA class I-II
ii)Age > 18yr < 85yr
iii)Written informed consent
iv)Patient requiring primary hip or knee arthroplasty

Exclusion Criteria
i)History of dementia
ii)ASA class III-V
iii)History of allergy to any of the medications used in the study.
iv)Inflammatory polyarthritis of a severity likely to compromise postoperative mobility
