The I CAN DO Surgical ACP trial, an NIH Collaboratory initiative, has released updated ethics and regulatory documentation as it moves from the planning to the implementation phase. This update follows a review of the minutes from the investigators' initial consultation with the Ethics and Regulatory Core.
The I CAN DO Surgical ACP trial is designed to test a system-based intervention aimed at increasing engagement in advance care planning among older adults scheduled for elective surgery. A secondary objective is to explore the influence of digital engagement, language, and social drivers of health on participation in the intervention.
This study, funded by a grant from the National Institute on Aging, is being conducted by Elizabeth Wick and Rebecca Sudore from the University of California, San Francisco, along with Genevieve Melton-Meaux of the University of Minnesota. The trial seeks to improve the process of advance care planning for a vulnerable patient population.
