The framework arrives at a time when CVD remains a major public health concern globally, driven by an alarming rise in risk factors such as obesity (search), hypertension (search), and diabetes (search), compounded by population aging and the obesity epidemic.
The updated framework emphasizes that effective CVD prevention begins with identifying at-risk individuals before symptoms or complications occur, and it provides structured guidance spanning risk assessment, lifestyle modification, timely pharmacotherapy, and personalized clinical care across the lifespan.
Risk Assessment Anchored by PREVENT™ Equations
Central to the updated framework is the recommendation to use the Predicting Risk of Cardiovascular Disease (search) Events (PREVENT™) equations developed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
