•Inpatients with a depressive episode (ICD-10 F31, F32, F33;
•HAMD-21: =17)
•- Patients will only be included in the study after the study procedure has been explained in full and in detail and they have given their informed consent in writing

•- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
•- Drug or alcohol addiction
•- Dementia
•- Depressive episode secondary to a somatic/neurological illness or substance dependence
•- Severe concomitant neurological or internal illness that may falsify the test results (e.g. recent myocardial infarction, Cushing's disease, underlying rheumatic diseases)
•- Other additional severe psychiatric comorbidities
•- The patient is unable to understand the nature and scope of the study and is therefore unable to give consent.
•- Inclusion not voluntary
•- Regular systemic intake of steroids or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
•- Incompatibility with MR measurement
