India Launches World's First Clinical Trial Integrating Ayurveda with Tuberculosis Treatment

- India has announced the world's first clinical study to scientifically evaluate Ayurveda as an adjunct to standard Anti-Tuberculosis Treatment, marking a historic convergence of traditional medicine and modern biotechnology. - The landmark study will enroll 1,250 newly diagnosed TB patients across eight premier institutions, focusing on nutritional recovery, disease progression, quality of life improvements, and safety of integrative therapy. - India accounts for approximately 25% of the global TB burden but has achieved a 21% decline in incidence since 2015, with TB cases reduced to 187 per 100,000 population in 2024. - The collaborative initiative between the Department of Biotechnology and Ministry of Ayush will deploy advanced scientific tools including DEXA scans, MRI, immune profiling, and single-cell RNA sequencing to evaluate outcomes.
