Patients: Consent by the legal representative, age = 18 years, diagnosis sepsis according to sepsis 3 definition (sepsis-associated organ dysfunction indicated by a change of the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score by 2 or more points compared to the previous day)
Healthy controls: consent, age = 18 years
Pregnancy, inclusion in an interventional study, infectious viral diseases (HBV, HCV, HIV, COVID-19) or unknown COVID-19 status, iatrogenic immunosuppression, diagnosis of sepsis > 24h

Name Time Method sing molecular biological and immunological methods, parameters of the iron metabolism on cellular and humoral level as well as the function of the immune cells are examined on each of the daily blood samples
