Inclusion Criteria
Patients with acute ischemic stroke less than 24 hours after the onset of symptoms
Exclusion Criteria
More than 24 hours after the onset of symptoms before assigning patients to the control or treatment group
transient ischemic attacks
Parkinson disease
restless legs syndrome
heart failure
syncope
symptomatic bradycardia
active asthma or obstructive pulmonary disease
recent abdominal surgery
recent gastrointestinal bleeding
gastrointestinal ulcer
renal failure
current use of acetylcholinesterase inhibitors
