- Diagnosis of schizophrenia according to DSM-IV-TR (early onset en late onset)
- Age between 18 and 65 years. Exclusion of patients older than 65 years considering the influence of aging processes on cognition.
- Substance dependence according to the DSM-IV-TR.
- Personality in A or B cluster according to the DSM-IV-TR.
- Moderate to severe depressive disorder according to the DSM-IV-TR.
- Total IQ score below 70 on the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale IV (WAIS-IV).
- Patient wholly or partially deaf or blind.
- Patient doesn't suffiently understand explanations and instructions prior to the study or insufficient (eg insufficient mastery of Dutch).
- Congenital and non-congenital hersenletslel.
- Amnestic syndromes according to the DSM-IV-TR.
- Suicidality

Name Time Method <p>Primary hypothesis<br /><br>The researchers will translate the IMI-SR into Dutch. Then a native speaker<br /><br>will translate it back into English, and both the back-translated English<br /><br>version of the IMI-SR and the original English version will be compared.<br /><br>Reliability and validity of the N-IMI-SR: Internal (item-)consistency,<br /><br>test-retest reliability, convergent and divergent validity.<br /><br>Convergent validity: Performance Motivation Test (PMT).<br /><br>Divergent validity: Symptom Checklist 90 Revised (SCL-90-R).<br /><br><br /><br>Secondary hypothesis<br /><br>The correlation between motivation and cognition is determined<br /><br>Motivation measures<br /><br>- N-IMI-SR<br /><br>Cognition measures:<br /><br>- Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale IV (WAIS-IV), measuring intelligence.<br /><br>- Winsconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST), measuring executive functioning,<br /><br>planning and organizing abilities.<br /><br>- Trail Making Test (TMT), measuring attention.</p><br>
