Inclusion Criteria
Patients with hypoxemic respiratory failure defined as respiratory rate >=20 breaths/min and oxyhemoglobin saturation (SpO2) <94% while receiving supplemental oxygen 6 L/min via nasal cannula or 15 L/min via non-rebreather facemask
Exclusion Criteria
1)Immediate need for intubation (PaO2/FiO2 < 50 mmHg, unable to protect airway or change of mental status)
2)Unstable hemodynamic status
3)Pregnant patients
4)Morbidly obese
5)Patient refusal to PP or any other contraindication to PP
