elective cardiosurgery with a recovery period at the intensive care unit
Exclusion Criteria
missing consent to participate; not familiar with German language; prior diagnosis of an delirium; psychiatric diagnosis of schizophrenia; hints of cognitive dysfunction prior to surgery (AMT-score <7), RASS-score <-2 at testing day at the IC

- Primary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method Incidence of postoperative delirium diagnosed by CAM-ICU. CAM-ICU is conducted twice a day at the first three days after surgery.
- Secondary Outcome Measures
Name Time Method anxiety; pain; developement of a posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSS-14); quality of life after surgery (SF-12); AChE; BChE; Nu-DESC (Delirium).<br>Time of measurements: 1st, 2nd, 3rd day after surgery (daily twice): NRS (anxiety,; pain), Nu-DESC, AChe, BChe. In addition CAM-ICU by another staff member who is blinded with respect to the experimental condition. Three months after surgery: SF-12 and PTSS-14.
