Criteria for inclusion were limited to patients having symptomatic apical periodontitis (for both pre-operative and percussion pain) with a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) of more than 50 related with mandibular or maxillary molar tooth, patients having molar tooth having periapical lesion score 1 or 2 according to the scoring system described by Ørstavik et al. (Ørstavik et al. 1986), and patients aged 18-65 years.
Exclusion criteria include patients having systemic diseases or allergic reactions, patients having psychiatric disorders, patients under analgesics medication at within 24 hours prior to root canal treatment or antibiotic medication at least one week before the appointment, presence of a swelling, sinus tract, severe periodontal disease or a periodontal pocket more than 3 mm, previous root canal treatment and patients with tooth associated with root resorption, root fracture or ankylosis.
